Making The Little Things Count on Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day everyone (day after V-day actually)!! I hope you all enjoyed yesterday just as much as any other day of the year. I always think if I had a dog, I would spoil him/her SO much on Valentines Day, more than I do my own boyfriend! Does anybody have any traditions they do every year with friends, family, or even pets? My boyfriend and I have never really done the classic Valentines Day celebration; by that I mean we don’t spend money on gifts and tend to do dinner a different night of the week. I am a huge advocate for no gifts; I just think Valentines Day is about spending quality time together and celebrating the love that you share, whomever that may be with. This is a day that can spent with friends, family, significant others, pets, etc.! We tend to do dinner a few days after Valentines Day because everything is so over priced on V-Day AND it’s much less crowded. I’m all about saving money when I can!

Valentines Day should be stress free; there is no need to stress about finding the perfect gift or outdoing the other person. Focus on the love and connection that you share with one another and celebrate that. This Valentines Day try to focus on two things:

  1. Showing your love does not need to cost a lot of money.

  2. Today should be a celebration of your relationship, so spend time with each other!

Instead of trying to compete with one another, making sure you spend the same amount on gifts and worrying if the other person will actually find the gift useful, I challenge you to not get any gifts. I challenge you to focus on the little things in your relationship that you enjoy and celebrate those because that is truly worth celebrating.

Focussing on the little things that you enjoy in a relationship helps you develop a healthy relationship and makes you realize what really makes you happy. Maybe it's something as small as making dinner together, or watching a show together. It doesn't have to be a $200 watch or anything like that. Maybe it's just me, but I believe that showing your love for one another and paying attention to the little details and enjoyments in life mean SO much more than any materialistic good.

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentines Day yesterday and I encourage you to celebrate the love in your life everyday and be thankful for what you have!
